Mexican duo Rodrigo y Gabriela play La (2) de Apolo on Friday 7 May 2027, doors at half past seven, show at nine in the evening. The date is run by Doctor Music and is a stop on the OurHome Tour.
The tour presents “OurHome”, which ATO Records releases on 18 September this year: when the Barcelona show was announced, the album hadn’t come out yet. Until then the duo’s most recent work was “In Between Thoughts… A New World” (2023), the first on which they brought in an orchestra.
There’s no one else on stage: Rodrigo Sánchez carries the melody and Gabriela Quintero taps out percussion on the guitar body while accompanying him. Both came from Tierra Ácida, a thrash metal band from Mexico City, and started out playing acoustic on the street in Dublin in the late nineties. From that period they’ve kept the covers — Metallica and Led Zeppelin have been regulars — and a way of attacking the string that isn’t the one usually associated with Spanish guitar.
