Jacob Collier

Jacob Collier (London, United Kingdom; 2 August 1994) is an English musician whose style fuses elements from a variety of musical genres, often featuring extreme use of harmonisation.

In 2012, his split-screen videos of popular songs, such as Stevie Wonder’s “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing”, began going viral on YouTube. In 2014, Collier signed with Quincy Jones’s company and began working on his one-man audiovisual live performance rig, designed and built at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In 2016, Collier released his debut album, “In My Room”, entirely self-recorded, arranged, performed and produced in the small back room of his family home in Finchley, north London. In 2017, Collier received two Grammy Awards for his arrangements of “Flintstones” and “You And I”, both from the album.

In 2018, Collier began work on Djesse, a four-volume album spanning around 50 songs with more than two dozen artists and ensembles. The first volume, featuring the Metropole Orkest, Djesse Vol. 1, was released in December 2018. The second, Djesse Vol. 2, more acoustic in nature, came out in July 2019. In 2020, Collier won two more Grammy Awards for his arrangements of “All Night Long” from Djesse Vol. 1 and “Moon River” from Djesse Vol. 2, respectively. The third volume, Djesse Vol. 3, which Collier describes as built around electronic sounds, was released on 14 August 2020. In 2021, he won another Grammy for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella for the song “He Won’t Hold You (feat. Rapsody)”.

Collier is the first British musician to win at least one Grammy Award for each of his first four albums.
